Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup With Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their maiden championship series after 1993 by beating the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the ALCS.
Trailing by two runs, the star outfielder smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "This is such an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, ranking him third in history after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another person in the world that I'd prefer in that moment besides Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.
Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he remarked.
Toronto secured the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
