The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
