From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Questers and Planners tables.
Viewers can look forward to learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
