The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:
- Every squad has only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players grant full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players looking for different methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
