It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
