Fans anticipating the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait much longer. A free-to-play playable preview is set to release on Jan. 7, providing a sizable look into the game's opening hours. Notably, all save data achieved within this demo is eligible to be transferred directly into the complete game upon its subsequent release.

More Than a Straightforward Re-release: The Thorough Transformation

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined constitutes a comprehensive reimagining of the landmark 2000 RPG, originally known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a notable step away from recent Dragon Quest remakes, like the previously launched HD-2D iterations, this reimagining utilizes a striking three-dimensional aesthetic. The world are designed to look like intricate model sets, with protagonists having a delightful chibi-esque design.

"Taking into account the previous remake, the narrative was still exceptionally extended. So we came to a determination that we wanted to tighten the story, [and] craft an experience for modern players."

Major Gameplay Enhancements & Updates

Square Enix have added numerous changes to update the classic gameplay loop. These include:

• Quick Field Encounters: Similar to contemporary role-playing games, weaker enemies can now be defeated instantly on the exploration screen eliminating the need for initiating a full turn-based combat screen.
• Variable Battle Pace: Gamers have the option to accelerate combat animations to rapidly power through easier encounters.
• New Vocation System: A completely new job class was added for this reimagining. Furthermore, party members gain the capacity to take on a secondary job, significantly enhancing strategic depth.

Such alterations are aimed at address one of the original game's common points of feedback: its considerable length. The original adventure could easily require more than 100 hours to see through. The reimagined edition has been expressly reworked to refine flow and reduce any filler.

The complete adventure, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, will then be scheduled to launch on Feb. 5, 2026. The title will be released on a wide selection of platforms, including Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox.
