New Particulars Emerge Concerning the Location of the Reiner Couple's Remains
Recent details have emerged concerning the shocking demises of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their residence property on Sunday.
The Alarm
As detailed in an account referencing a person close to the family, a therapist scheduled for an session initially became concerned after not being able to enter the residence. This individual then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides in the vicinity.
Upon entering the house, Romy found her father's body. Accounts indicate she then left the home distraught, not realizing at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. A companion who had accompanied her contacted 911. Following this, paramedics found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Criminal Proceedings
Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, along with the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is now being held and is ineligible for bail.
Disputed Reports
The person close to the family questioned several initial details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick lived in a detached unit on the estate, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that juncture.
The source also disputed published notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "concerned" about Nick's conduct in the preceding period. The source claimed the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement includes descriptions of reportedly "erratic" behavior by Nick at a gathering hosted by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the discovery. Although the source stated they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they said that claims of a "heated argument" between the two were inaccurate.
Investigation Timeline
As stated by law enforcement officials, the coroner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports indicated the condition of their bodies pointed to they had been dead for some hours.
Nick Reiner was apprehended at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the residence. He was due to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, stated his client had not received medical clearance and would be unable to attend until Wednesday at the earliest.
