Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. And again, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD issued security footage Monday of a man sought in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims were reported.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday morning in the area between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was projected as a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in the spring.
