British Designer Antony Price, Famed for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted many legendary styles associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
This news arrives less than a month after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.
Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
