Brian Eno Calls On Support to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort aims to send support to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The track was produced in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in September. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The notable list of artists featured on Lullaby features a selection of prominent voices from the music world. All were part of the earlier concert, which managed to collect a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of talented individuals. The single showcases a combination of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The team running the initiative have clarified that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a figure commented. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the region was characterized as its widespread damage, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions won't make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”
The song is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a digital service from the 19th of December.
